Migrant Health Center, Western Region, Inc. (MHC, Inc.) began operations in the western region of Puerto Rico in April of 1971, by means of a federal initiative focused on providing health services to the migrant agricultural population. In 1986, MHC, Inc. became a non-profit corporation by law of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, thus expanding its medical services to communities in general.

MHC, Inc. provides high-quality and integrated health services at their clinics in Mayagüez, Guánica, Yauco, Isabela, Lajas, San Sebastián, Las Marías, Maricao, and its Special Projects division. Our services consist of family physicians, general practitioners, pediatricians, general internists, OB/Gyn, dentists, optometrist, mental health professionals, pharmacies, vaccinations and medical laboratories. MHC, Inc. also provides services for the prevention and treatment of HIV and leads the way in providing Buprenorphine treatment services in Puerto Rico. MHC, Inc. is the first Federally Qualified Health Center (Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act) on the island that has received PCMH (Patient Center Medical Home) certification in nine (9) of its eleven (11) clinical facilities, by means of NCQA (National Committee of Quality Assurance). Special Projects

The Corporation has a Special Projects Division, which focuses on providing high quality health and prevention services to typically marginalized populations. This division is composed of seven projects aimed at the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, substance abuse, and primary healthcare services, dental and mental health care services, among others.
